The WLF 553 event took place at a packed Tangshan Sports Center in Tangshan, China.
China`s premier kickboxing promotion hosted its second event of the year. Although the highly anticipated lightweight clash between Luo Chao and Kacper Muszyński was cancelled due to Muszyński`s back injury, the night still delivered entertaining matchups.
A standout fight was the contest between Meng Gaofeng, who had recently faced Tomás Aguirre in September, and Yodkhunpon Weerasakreck, notable for winning the K-1 Super Lightweight title on the same night as Gaofeng`s last fight.
Despite Yodkhunpon missing weight by 0.8 kg, which led to an initial one-point deduction, the fight proceeded. Both competitors exchanged quality strikes in a competitive back-and-forth. However, as Meng Gaofeng applied pressure, Yodkhunpon was penalized an additional point for excessive clinching, used to break up the action. These deductions influenced the judges` unanimous decision, resulting in a close 28-27 points victory for Meng Gaofeng.
