Today, Chelsea Roffey will line out for her 300th game for the clash between Collingwood and Port Adelaide, only the 8th umpire and the first woman to achieve the feat.
Roffey was the first woman to officiate in a grand final in 2012, between Sydney and Hawthorn, and has officiated 16 finals.
Here, she talks to the goaltender about how hard she had to work early in her career and the added pressure she felt to represent her gender as the only female goal referee in the league.
“Some of the hurdles earlier, man, I had to work really hard to make sure I was … in shape and able to hold my own,” Roffey said.
