Did Winona Ryder Wear Kendall Jenner’s Met Gala Dress? Mystery Solved

News

A Met Gala mystery has just been solved.

Internet fans were quick they share their confusion when Kendall Jenner made history at the 2024 Met Gala in an archival Givenchy gown that the model said was the “first human ever to wear.” However, fans noticed that the dress also appeared to have been worn Winona Ryder in a 1999 photo shoot by Flaunt Magazine as the images emerged.

So what is the truth? Well, an industry source tells E! News that Winona's dress “was a replica of the original presentation look,” adding that the original had “never been worn prior to Kendall's 2024 Met Gala appearance.”

The dress in question was originally designed by Alexander McQueen for Givenchy's Fall-Winter 1999 Haute Couture presentation as a nude black tulle dress with a sculpted neckline and shoulder. It also featured cutouts at the waist, giving a peek at Kendall's rear, and hand embroidery that took more than 500 hours. (See more Met Gala “Garden of Time” looks here.)
