Fans of Middle Earth might want to cook up a huge pot of potatoes. They will need plenty of sustenance for a very long trip this summer. They may also want to get some comfortable pants. For the first time, Peter Jackson's remastered and expanded versions The Lord of the Rings trilogy comes to the big screen.
We first heard about it on the news a The Hollywood Reporter, Fathom Events has partnered with Warner Bros. for a special film event. All three The Lord of the Rings movies will return to the big screen in June. The Fellowship of the Ring will return to theaters on June 8. The next day, June 9th, humans, dwarves and elves will be able to crouch down to watch The Two Towers. And on June 10, the three-day celebration will end The return of the king.
This is a special new version. However, Fathom Events doesn't just show the extended (superior) versions of the movies. Show Jackson's 2020 remastered versions of the film. Fans got to see them for the first time via a 4K Ultra HD home release. However, they have never been seen in theaters.
Both Frodo and Sauron fans can get their tickets at local participating locations. Among the chains participating in the Middle Earth festival are AMC, Cinemark and Regal. Other theaters are also getting in on the Tolkien fun, so see if your favorite theater is among them. Tickets are on sale now via the Fathom Event website.
Those who choose to watch all three films in three days will spend more than 11 and a half hours watching the entire trilogy. That's almost enough time to walk into Mordor yourself, assuming you have a special ring that makes you invisible to Orcs and frustrated family members alike.
