Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y) “sought to fraudulently exploit every aspect of his House candidacy for his own personal financial profit,” the House Ethics Committee said in a scathing report Thursday that it warned could lead to additional federal charges against the embattled congressman—and another push to expel him from the House.

Santos “blatantly stole from his campaign” and “deceived donors” into making contributions he then used for “his personal benefit,” the bipartisan committee, led by Rep. Michael Guest (R-Miss.), said in an eight-page summary of its months-long investigation into his conduct.
He also filed false or incomplete reports with the Federal Election Commission, “engaged in knowing and willful violations of the Ethics in Government Act,” and reported “fictitious loans to his political committees,” according to the report.
Santos executed his allegedly fraudulent schemes “through a constant series of lies to his constituents, donors, and staff about his background and experience,” the committee wrote.
The committee said it found Santos committed more crimes than the 23 federal offenses he has been charged with, and has submitted its findings to the Department of Justice.
