Supergiant Games' roguelike action RPG Hades 2 launched into early access on Steam and the Epic Games Store on Monday. Since then, the long-awaited sequel has climbed the charts to become one of the most played games on Valve's platform this week. In fact, the game has already more than doubled the all-time maximum number of concurrent players of its predecessor, Hades. Supergiant Games has yet to reveal the schedule for the full release of the v1.0 game, but Hades 2 is expected to hit PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo consoles later.

As detected by VGC, Hades 2 peaked at 79,276 concurrent players within nine hours of launch, meaning the game doubled the number of Hades players on the first day of its Early Access release .

According to SteamDB, the maximum number of concurrent players for Hades is 37,749. The graph on the site shows that Hades 2 has reached a maximum number of concurrent players of 103,567. At the time of writing, Hades 2 Early Access has 62,984 active players on Steam.

According to developer Supergiant Games, Hades 2 already includes more fully voiced environments, enemies and characters than the full version of the original game, with more content to follow. While the early access version of Hades 2 offers more than just a sample of the game, Supergiant has noted that the true ending to the game's story won't be available until the full release of v1.0.

The developer will monitor early access player feedback and plans to release the game's first major update later this year. Hades 2 is expected to be in early access “at least until the end of 2024,” the studio said.

On Steam, reception to Hades 2 has been uniformly positive. At the time of writing, the game's consensus is “Overwhelmingly Positive” after over 11,000 user reviews.

Hades 2 was first revealed at The Game Awards 2022, showcasing its predecessor's famous dungeon crawler gameplay. The sequel features a new protagonist in Melinoë, the immortal princess of the underworld, who takes on the Titan of Time. The game promises new locations, challenges, upgrade systems and more. Hades is currently available to purchase in Early Access on Steam and the Epic Games Store.
