The iPhone 16 series could witness major changes in terms of design and screen size. According to a new leak, the Pro models, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, could have larger screens, while the non-Pro models, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, could include a new camera alignment. These changes, if true, will break Apple's three-year streak of introducing a consistent design and display for its smartphones. In particular, the iPhone 16 series also has the possibility of getting capacitive buttons this year.
Tipster Sonny Dickson shared an image on X (formerly known as Twitter) showing the new design and screen sizes. According to the images, the iPhone 16 Pro could have a 6.3-inch display instead of the 6.1-inch display of the iPhone 15 Pro. Similarly, the iPhone 16 Pro Max features a 6.9-inch screen compared to a 6.7-inch screen on its predecessor. The vanilla iPhone 16 is said to retain its 6.1-inch display, while the iPhone 16 Plus will have the same 6.7-inch display as its predecessor.
The screen size upgrade, if true, will make some users happy, but fans of smaller phones might be disappointed with the development. But the screen size is not the only change revealed by the whistleblower. The camera alignment for non-Pro models has also changed.
Instead of a diagonally aligned camera module like the iPhone 13, iPhone 14 and iPhone 15, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus could have a vertically aligned module, similar to the iPhone 11 and the iPhone 12. However, there is another change that sets it apart from any other iPhone model. It looks like the LED flash is out of the module.
The vertically aligned camera alignment is rumored to add spatial video recording capabilities to non-Pro iPhone 16 models. While not much is known, some other features of Apple's next-generation iPhone have surfaced online. According to a report, the iPhone 16 series could get capacitive buttons that will replace the physical power button and volume rockers. These first were proposed to arrive in the iPhone 15 series, but were later ruled out. The action button that currently only appears on Pro models is also expected to be present on all iPhone 16 models.
