The streets of Milan are bracing for yet more violence tonight as hooded supporters of French club Paris Saint Germain were seen carrying knives ahead of their team’s Champions League clash tonight with AC Milan.

Shocking images showed hordes of PSG ‘Ultras’ clad in balaclavas and matching tracksuits parading through the city today.

Other pictures appeared to show ultras carrying a variety of weapons including poles and batons.

It comes after a Paris Saint-Germain fan and a police officer were seriously injured with stab wounds last night in Milan’s canal district when rowdy supporters of both teams got into an armed scrap.

According to Italian media, a group of around 50 Milan fans – wearing masks and helmets and throwing flares – attacked PSG supporters in the lively Navigli area of the Italian city on the eve of today’s Champions League Group F match.

The PSG fan was rushed to hospital after being stabbed twice in the leg and losing a considerable amount of blood.

The officer meanwhile was stabbed in a confrontation with other PSG fans.

Two other policemen received minor injuries while trying to contain angry French supporters.

‘AC Milan condemns every form of violence: football for us is passion, not hate. Sport is supposed to unite, not divide,’ the Italian club wrote in a post – in French as well as English and Italian – on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

Milan, which reached the semifinals last season, is bottom of Group F and without a win or a goal in this season’s competition.

The latest outbreak of knife violence comes after Newcastle United supporter Eddie McKay, 58, was set upon and stabbed by a gang of Milan supporters when their teams played a fixture in September.

McKay, who was attacked in the same Navigli district, was stabbed twice in the arm and once in the lower back and narrowly escaped with his life.

McKay’s son was also hit with a baton and had his Newcastle shirt hacked away from his body by thugs with machetes.

Sam Gordon, McKay’s nephew, told MailOnline at the time: ‘My uncle, cousin and their friend had just left a couple of other lads and were heading back to the hotel when around eight men in balaclavas appeared and attacked them.

‘My cousin was hit with what they think was a police-type baton and has a gash on his head. They had a machete and used that to rip at their Newcastle tops. They only ran off when they had the shirts.

‘My uncle was stabbed three times and left in a pretty bad way.

‘My uncle is retired now and is just enjoying watching Newcastle and being with his family. We’re all in shock and very upset by what has happened.’
