Ozempic is no laughing matter for the comic. Handler revealed that her “anti-aging doctor” prescribed the drug without realizing what the drug was.
“I didn't even know it was there,” she said during the January 25, 2023 episode of Call her father. “She said, 'If you ever want to lose five pounds, that's good.'
But while trying the drug, Handler noted that she didn't like how it made her feel.
“I came back from vacation and injected myself,” he recalled. “I went to lunch with a girlfriend a few days later, and she said, 'I don't really eat anything.' I'm very nauseous, I'm on Ozempic.' And I said, 'I'm nauseous too.' But I had just come back from Spain and I was jet-lagged.”
Handler eventually stopped using the drug because it was not medically necessary for her, adding that she gave away the remaining doses to friends.
“I've injected about four or five of my friends with Ozempic, because I realized they didn't want to use it because it was silly,” he said. “It's for heavy people. I have people come to my house and say, 'OK, I'll see you at 1, I can see you at 2.'”
