Since the premiere of the hit Netflix docuseries Drive to survive in 2019, Formula 1 Grands Prix have become a magnet for A-list celebrities, and few races can match the glamor and spectacle of the Miami Grand Prix.

The 2024 edition of the race marked a few firsts. Visa Cash App RB Formula 1 team made their US debut, BLACKPINK's Lisa waved their first checkered flag, and it also marked Keke Palmer's first Grand Prix. While Palmer breaks the mold to enter Formula 1 from something others what Drive to survive, the actor still raved about the chance to watch drivers race at speeds of more than 200 mph under the Miami sun. “Watching these drivers is a thrill,” he tells NYLON. “When you really think about how fast they're going, it's kind of a sensation.”

Ahead, Palmer talks about how she became a fan of the sport, her thoughts on the Visa Cash App RB Formula 1 car and her plans for her debut race weekend.

How did you get into Formula 1? He bit you Drive to survive error?

Oh my god no, but I saw a really cool recent movie called Grand Tourism about the guy who played video game driving who ended up doing it in real life. That did give me a bit of an error.

What did you like about the movie?

I thought it was really interesting how these games really reflect some of the real things that go into racing. In our generation, you can play so many kinds of surreal games, so it's great that the one who played actually got to where a real runner could be.

Let's talk more about Formula 1. I know you're a new fan.

It's the first time I go to a Grand Prix. My son likes cars so much. He loves, loves, loves cars, and that's how I got into it more. Who doesn't want to be in Miami around such an exciting sport?

Speed doesn't translate to video. Cars are in front of you for a split second and then they disappear. Visa Cash App RB Formula 1 car will be a blur.

I can not wait. I'm excited to see the Chameleon car that is inspired by the card. I think the design is great, plus there are all the different pieces that come together to make it happen.

This is also Visa Cash App RB's first US Grand Prix. Do you have words of support for them?

The biggest support is that I will be there. I'll be there looking for a fly, matching the car and telling them, “Guys, do your best. You'll be fine.” I will give them all the love.

What else are you excited to do in Miami?

I think I'm excited to be around everyone. As a mom, I get to go out again and have new and fun experiences. I'm going to get some souvenirs so my boy can have some things to play with when he gets back, take tons of pictures and live in the moment. You only live life once. I think it's a great experience to be able to be there. Maybe I'll stop by for clothes or jewelry. I will definitely be swiping my Cash app card.
