The WA community has come together and raised almost $100,000 to help support the family of a 17-year-old boy who will be released from hospital in the coming months after he was nearly killed in a car crash in the suburbs of north of perth
Darcy Metcalf, who was 16 at the time of the accident, was on his way to a photo shoot for his football team in July 2023 when he was involved in a horrific traffic accident in Greenwood that nearly killed him. take life
The community has rallied around Perth teenager Darcy Metcalf to help him return home from hospital.
He spent four months in Royal Perth Hospital recovering from several broken bones and a catastrophic brain injury.
Medical specialists initially told his family to prepare for him to die in intensive care, saying it was unlikely he would ever be well enough to be in a hospital room, let alone come home.
But despite this, he was eventually discharged and has been undergoing intensive rehabilitation at Fiona Stanley Hospital. His medical team are now working to allow him to return home within the next eight weeks.
Chailee Richards' son was Darcy's friend. Richards has now set up a GoFundMe on behalf of his family to help bring him home.
She said the family intended to transform their garage into an independent living space for Darcy, complete with a bathroom, kitchenette and bedrooms, so they can help provide the level of care she will need.
To date, more than $97,500 has been raised to help. Kingsley Amateur Football Club, where Darcy has been a member since playing Auskick, also donated part of the proceeds from their recent tryout night.
