Sony Will NOT Require HELLDIVERS 2 PSN Linking After All

At the beginning of May, Sony announced than to continue playing Helldivers 2, Steam players should link their accounts to a PlayStation Network account. But this ad went wrong, to say the least. Some players stipulated that they literally couldn't create a PlayStation Network account because their region wouldn't allow it. Others simply didn't want to have to share their information with Sony. But after the big negative outcry, the company has reversed course.

PlayStation shared on Twitter that “The May 6 update, which would have required linking Steam and PlayStation Network accounts for new [Helldivers 2] players and for current players after May 30, they will not advance.”

Johan Pilestedt, CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios, which develops Helldivers 2, commented that he was impressed by the collaborative energy of the community. He also praised PlayStation and Sony for being quick to undo the unpopular edict. ( For the second time in recent history, companies have backed down on an unpopular ad.) He noted, “Together we want to set a new standard for what live gaming is and how developers and the community can support each other to create the best gaming experiences.”

Guess that's the power of the players in action.
