A 10-year-old girl was stabbed to death at a home near Newcastle on Monday afternoon, and a 17-year-old girl was arrested at the scene.
Emergency services responded to reports of the stabbing around 3:45 p.m. Paramedics treated the younger girl at the home on Thurston Street in Boolaroo, but she died from multiple stab wounds.
Officers from the Lake Macquarie Police District arrested a 17-year-old girl at the home and took her to Belmont Police Station and is currently assisting with inquiries, police said.
The two girls are believed to know each other.
