Lincolnshire Hospital A&E waiting times second worst in the country

In March 2024, United Lincolnshire Hospitals, which covers hospitals in Grantham, Boston, Skegness, Louth and Lincoln, had the worst waiting times in the country according to a new report.

The NHS is once again letting patients under watch at Lincolnshire hospitals, as reports have found that patients who visited A&E in March had to wait longer than most other people of the country

Lincolnshire hospitals run by United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust had the second worst waiting times in the country during March. NHS England data found that 65% of patients visiting a Lincolnshire hospital had to wait more than four hours.

The only other trust to have a longer waiting time than Lincolnshire hospitals was University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust. Their hospitals had a waiting time of 65.5%.

A spokesman for the Lincolnshire hospital has apologized to patients for the extra waiting times. They explained that the staff is working hard to improve the situation.

They said: “Our trust, like many others in the country, continues to experience significant demand for our urgent and emergency care services.

“We are working with colleagues in our A&E centers and urgent care centers to ensure patients are seen as quickly as possible in the right place for the care they need. Many of those who attend our A&Es have more complex needs and require more attention in our hospitals, which means there is also a longer waiting time for beds for new patients who need to be admitted.

“We are sorry for those who have experienced longer waits, but we would like to ensure that our clinical teams continue to work tirelessly to ensure that those who need immediate emergency care can be treated. We are working with our partners in the Lincolnshire to ensure patients can access care in the right place at the right time, including alternative services outside of hospital.

“Our advice to the public is that if you need help and it's not a 999 emergency, use alternative services such as your GP, local pharmacy or NHS 111 online or over the phone for advice clinical, assessment and guidance to the most appropriate services for your treatment”.

When Rishi Sunak took over as Prime Minister, he promised to tackle the serious problem in the NHS, but like most of his promises, he has failed. The NHS has become an embarrassment to the UK with more people dying waiting to be seen and waiting for an ambulance than ever before.

The report found that four out of ten attendances at A&E departments in England in March had to wait more than four hours. There have been cases of people having to wait more than 24 hours to be transferred from A&E to a bed including in Grimsby and Scunthorpe under Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust.

It's not just the people of Lincolnshire being let down by the NHS, it's most of the country. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like things will improve in the short or long term until either a Labor Prime Minister or a Conservative Prime Minister turns their words into action.
