A Former ‘Good Doctor’ Resident Will Return in an Upcoming Episode

As in ABC the good doctor will soon come to an end, a former main character from the previous season of the show will return. Antonia Tomás will reprise her role as Claire Browne after leaving the main cast at the end of Season 4 in 2021. Her return was initially reported in early 2024, and the latest episode of the show reveals the latest update on the doctor since leaving San Jose St. Bonaventura Hospital

The official trailer for the penultimate episode of the show, titled “Unconditional,” features the return of the Doctor to visit Shawn (Freddie Highmore) and Lea (Paige Shoots). Unfortunately, this happy reunion came with bad news: Claire has breast cancer. The official synopsis for the episode was shared with TVLine, and reads “Dr. Claire Browne returns from work in Guatemala for a personal medical exam. Elsewhere, Dr. Glassman struggles to manage Hannah, who remains without respond to his attempts to help, while Park searches for the perfect last-minute wedding venue.”

The synopsis for the show's series finale has also been released, and reads: “As the doctors consider their futures, they work together to solve one of the most important cases of their careers.” Although it has not been confirmed yet, it could hint that the big case could be about Claire.

Season 7 marks the final season of the good doctor as the show ended filming in March 2024, and the final episode is scheduled to air on May 21, 2024. During the show's run time, many of the recurring cast members they left the show in several episodes.

Why did Claire leave 'The Good Doctor'?

Claire Browne first appeared in the good doctor back in Season 1 as a surgical resident at San Jose St. Hospital. Bonaventure and was close friends with Shawn. As each episode progressed, we learned more about why she wanted to be a surgeon, her loves, and her difficult relationship with her mother. Claire left the main cast in season 4 when she decided to continue helping patients in Guatemala. However, she made a guest appearance in season 5, when she was invited to Shawn and Lea's wedding.

According to TVLine , Thomas left the good doctor because she wanted to pursue different opportunities and she feels that Claire's character development has reached its peak.

“I think ultimately for me it's about getting to the point where I think we've really run the gamut of different things that Claire can have gone through. Now I'm really excited to explore different creative opportunities.” .
