Apple is said to be working on its next generation of smartwatches, dubbed the Apple Watch X. As a follow-up to the current Apple Watch Series 9, the company's next wearable will feature a revised design, which will change the way how users wear the smartwatch. Now, a new rumor has hinted at more design changes that could make the Apple Watch X thinner than its predecessors.
The latest information comes from Digitimes (via 9to5Mac ), which cites a supply chain rumor that suggests the Apply Watch X is set to use a resin-coated copper (RCC) motherboard design. A switch to a thinner RCC logic board could leave more room for other components or a larger battery inside the watch, according to the report.
While several reports have put the Apple Watch X in development at the Cupertino, California-based company, there's no word on a release schedule. Previous reports had pointed to a 2023 launch, but Apple ended up unveiling the Apple Watch Series 9 last year, alongside the company's iPhone 15 lineup.
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, however, reported in August last year that the Apple Watch X would likely be introduced in 2024 or 2025. According to him, the Apple Watch X is meant to commemorate Apple's 10th anniversary Watches, first introduced in 2015. Apple's next-generation smartwatch is said to represent a major overhaul and could feature a thinner watch case and a new magnetic band that will change the way people wear the smart watch.
Additionally, the Apple Watch X could also feature a microLED display, an upgrade over the current OLED displays found on Apple Watch models. It could also get new sensors that monitor the user's blood pressure.
Most recently, a report earlier this month claimed that the next Apple Watch lineup could feature upgraded displays that improve the wearable's battery efficiency. The report said that the Apple Watch Series 10 (or Apple Watch X) could have a low temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) OLED display, along with thin film transistor (TFT) technology, providing a better battery life.
Future Apple Watch models have also been tipped to get new features like drowning alerts. Apple smartwatches have been known to be useful and lifesaving in emergency situations, whether it's sending notifications of irregular heart activity or alerts of falls and accidents. A recent patent application filed by the company detailed a system to send alerts to nearby users if an Apple Watch user begins to drown in a body of water.
