Panera Will Discontinue Notorious Charged Lemonade

Panera has shared that its Charged Lemonade will soon no longer be available in its stores. And it looks like it's about time Panera stopped making this product. The loaded lemonade allegedly contains more than 390 milligrams of caffeine, although according to Panera's nutritional information, it contains at most 302 milligrams of caffeine. In any case, to put it into perspective, 12 oz of Diet Coke contains 46 mg of caffeine, while 12 oz of coffee appears to contain between 80 and 100 mg of caffeine. Panera's laden lemonade has been named as the cause of two deaths in lawsuits.

In accordance with NBC news“A Panera spokesperson said Tuesday that the nationwide suspension of Charged Lemonade comes after a 'recent menu transformation.'” Panera notes, “We listened to more than 30,000 guests about what they wanted from Panera, and we're focusing on continued in the wide range of drinks that we know our guests want, ranging from exciting and on-trend flavors to low-sugar and low-caffeine options.”

Low-caffeine options seem like a wise next step for Panera… just like discontinuing that loaded lemonade.
