The 82-year-old announced in a video on social media that he will seek a fourth term in the Senate, saying that serving in the upper house of Congress has been “the honor of my life,” while laying out a series of progressive priorities that remain. .

“Today I am announcing my intention to seek another term,” Sanders said, adding that he is in a position to “provide the kind of help Vermonters need in these difficult times.”

Sanders said the upcoming election is “the most important national election of our lifetimes,” and urged that “we must fight to make sure we remain a democracy.” While pointing to his progressive accomplishments during his time in the Senate, Sanders listed a number of remaining priorities, from universal health care to lowering prescription drug prices, reducing carbon emissions and the protection of women's access to reproductive health.

“The stakes are huge,” he said. “This is an election we must not lose.”
