Before Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes Hitting theaters next week, Allan sat down with Perri Nemiroff for an interview as part of Collider Ladies Night, where they talked about everything The Sorcerer Season 4 to last apes delivery from Wes Ball. At one point, she was asked about the audition process for the Netflix adaptation and her experience with the casting team while formulating her vision for Ciri. From the first moment, he already felt that he looked like the lion cub of Cintra and that he could bring his best features to life. Additionally, her confidence was only bolstered by all the team members who led her audition and helped her shape what would eventually become the Ciri seen on screen.

“Well, I Googled it before and I was like, 'OK, I look a lot like her,'” he said. “I feel like there were characteristics of her that I felt I could bring, so I was really excited. I went into the audition so prepared, and I came out, and they were very welcoming and very warm, and good at directing.” Allan was riding high after the experience and felt everything was coming together for her to land this breakthrough role, but his hopes were quickly dashed by a single message sent to his mother.

“And usually, you don't leave an audition feeling like, 'I have a good feeling about this,' and indeed I
did
. Then my mom got this email saying that the studio wanted to go in a different direction with her appearance, so I wasn't that. It broke my heart because I thought so
was
perfect for that, you know? Because a lot is about aligning everything. You've got to look it right, you've got to be the right age, all those things, and I thought everything was perfect, and then it wasn't, for me.”

“The casting people really liked me and said, 'We still want you on the show, so will you come and audition for this other character?' So I did, and then they told me I got it. And then my mom showed up at my school and I immediately knew, “They've changed their minds.” I knew instantly that I was like, “Why did he show up at my school?” And she did, she came up to me and said, 'Freya, I just got a call from your agent and they want you to come in tomorrow for the role of Ciri. I had to come find you and tell you, because I knew how much it had meant to me and I had been given a lot of support along the way by another person, and they gave me a big hug in the room of auditions, and I said, “I feel like I got it.” But then I had to wait, still, for everything to be confirmed, and then I found out the day before my birthday.”

The Sorcererrecently went into production on season 4, and for the first time, Allan will not be acting alongside Henry Cavill. In a controversial move, Liam Hemsworth will take over the dead man of steel stars Geralt of Rivia, leaving room for a new dynamic between the two characters. Ciri bonded with the Rats at the end of Season 3, and as Allan said last year, she'll be embracing her darker side a bit more, creating complications for when she's reunited with her adoptive parents, Geralt and Yennefer (Anya Chalotra).
